Senior Programs

Providing Housing and Programming for Residents 55 and Older

PHA operates quality senior developments in all sections of the city, but our commitment to seniors goes beyond housing.

PHA helps its senior residents live vital, active lives, and remain independent. Whatever their interests may be, PHA has a program to suit their needs or can help find one. Our team provides health and fitness programs and works with other government agencies to deliver quality service and support for seniors.

Senior Centers

Senior centers

PHA operates senior centers at Wilson Park (2500 Jackson Street), Cassie L. Holley (2100 Dickinson Street) and Emlen Arms (6733 Emlen Street), which provide many services and assist seniors with daily activities. The centers offer balanced meals, and dance, aerobic and walking classes to help keep seniors healthy and active.

In addition to providing opportunities for seniors to socialize with one another, the senior centers also entertain residents by presenting movies, playing music, and taking trips around the city.

PHA and the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging pay for all services provided, allowing seniors to enjoy these comforts at no cost. Centers are open to PHA seniors and seniors in the community.

Congregate Housing Services Program

The Congregate Housing Services Program (CHSP) is designed to provide assistance in the form of supportive services for participants in eligible housing developments.

Key program components include: service coordination; participant eligibility, admission and termination; the Professional Assessment Committee (PAC); appropriate need-based supportive services; participant fees; funding and cost sharing; and program costs.

These supportive services, located at Bentley Hall, are provided to frail or temporarily disabled elderly persons and non-elderly persons with disabilities for the purpose of promoting independence, preventing unnecessary institutionalization, and encouraging de-institutionalization.

CHSP is for seniors age 62 and older.

Healthy Café

PHA’s Healthy Café Program is an amenity that promotes healthy nutrition and social exchange between peers for seniors. The café provides healthy nutritious breakfast meals and food choices at a low cost to residents and guests. Presently, the program operates at Wilson Park (Café in the Park) and is a convenience for our senior residents.
