Section 3 of the HUD Act of 1968 requires recipients of certain HUD financial assistance to provide job training, employment, and contract opportunities for low- or very-low income residents in connection with projects and activities in their neighborhoods to the greatest extent possible.

PHA and its contractors and vendors are committed to providing economic opportunities to qualified Section 3 residents and business concerns.

  • The Achieving Independence Center (AIC)
    AIC is a "one-stop center" designed to help young people, ages 16-21, from the dependent (foster care) system achieve their future goals of self-sufficiency. The Center is seeking a Housing Advocate who will be responsible for:
    • Conducting individual housing counseling
    • Assisting youth in developing and implementing individual housing plans that lead to independent living and permanent housing options
    • Teaching workshops related to housing topics as needed
    • Assisting youth in finding and registering for emergency housing placements
    • Referring youth to appropriate housing support programs, including transitional housing programs
    • Developing relationships with private market landlords and rental agencies, housing-related service providers and public/government-based housing entitites
    • Advocating for youth with regard to housing-related issues
    The ideal candidate will possess:
    • A commitment to positive youth development and a strengths-based approach
    • Training in (or willingness to learn) adventure-based counseling techniques
    • Master's Degree in Social Work, Human Services, or other related field
    • Minimum of two or more years working with adolescents, work with homeless youth and/or youth with a dependent care history preferred
    • Child Abuse, Criminal Background and FBI clearances
    • Available early evenings and weekends
    • Enjoys working with teens

    • Track Worker-030702 Job Summary: Work as a member of a crew to install new railroad track, maintain existing track and right-of-way. Replace or repair track switches with specific components. Slide and align tie plates. Drill holes through rails for insertion of bolts and tighten or loosen bolts at joints that hold ends or rails together. Correct deviations in track surface, alignment and gauge Cut rails to specific lengths etc.
